I'm loving creating this collection of Autumn leaves paintings! My paintings are always inspired by nature - things I see when out walking that catch my eye. I often stand for ages just staring in awe at a tree, at the way the leaves hang, at their shapes and colours, etc. I'm sure I must look slightly mad to anyone passing!

Last Autumn I was walking near my home and was stopped in my tracks at the sight of the most incredible spread of Autumn leaves. There were so many colours, shapes and sizes which I am exploring in this series of paintings.

Viewers have described them as both calming, due to the subject matter, and at the same time enlivening, with the colours being so bright and bold. The vibrant colours and big shapes would certainly make these paintings a great centre piece in any room.

My process is first of all to outline the image on a primed canvas (usually fairly large - I love working on large canvases!) I then block in the shapes and rough colours in acrylic paint, then add the top layer in oil paint. It's a very time-consuming process!
